This Privacy Policy explains how WRIT (“WRIT”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) handles your information. WRIT is published by LewCraftStudios Ltd (“the developer”), a company registered in Scotland, company number SC837444, registered office 2nd Floor, Clyde Offices, 48 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 1BP. If you have questions, contact us at hello@lewcraftstudios.co.uk.
The short version. WRIT is built to keep your writing yours. Your notes are stored on your device and — if you’re signed into iCloud — synced through your own private iCloud account. The developer runs no servers, receives no copy of your content, and uses no analytics, tracking, advertising, or third-party data collection. The only time your text leaves your own Apple ecosystem is if you choose to use the optional AI features with your own API key.
WRIT is a note-taking and writing app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The developer is LewCraftStudios Ltd, based in the United Kingdom. For any privacy request, email hello@lewcraftstudios.co.uk.
Your content stays with you. Everything you create in WRIT — notes, folders, databases, comic scripts, drawings, imported files, tags, and settings — is stored:
The developer has no servers and never receives, stores, or has access to your content. We cannot read your notes. Data held in your iCloud is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
WRIT’s AI features are optional and off by default. To use them, you connect your own account with a third-party AI provider by supplying your own API key, which is stored on your device (in the Apple Keychain) and is never sent to the developer. The first time you use an AI feature, WRIT asks you to confirm before any content is sent, and you can decline.
When you use an AI feature, the content you choose to send — note text, prompts, excerpts, and related context — is transmitted directly from your device to the AI provider you have selected. LewCraftStudios Ltd does not receive, proxy, log, store, read, or use that content, and does not control how your chosen provider processes it.
Your use of a third-party AI provider is governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy — including its retention, training/usage rules, and your account settings. You decide what to send and are responsible for checking the provider’s terms are suitable, especially where the content includes personal, confidential, or third-party material. For UK GDPR purposes, LewCraftStudios Ltd is not the controller or processor of content sent directly from your device to your chosen provider, which the developer never accesses. If you never enable AI, no note content ever leaves your Apple ecosystem.
WRIT does not:
Any diagnostic logs the app writes stay on your device and are only surfaced to you within the app; they are not transmitted to us.
WRIT asks for the following permissions only to provide specific features, and only when you use them. Data accessed stays on your device / in your iCloud as described above.
| Permission | Why WRIT uses it |
|---|---|
| Documents / Files | To import and manage files you choose. |
| Photos | To import images you choose into your notes. |
| Camera | To scan documents into your library. |
| Face ID / Touch ID | To unlock notes and folders you have chosen to protect. Biometric data never leaves your device and is handled by Apple. |
You can change or revoke these permissions at any time in your device Settings.
WRIT Pro is an optional subscription sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase. All billing is handled by Apple — the developer never receives or stores your name, card, or payment details. Apple provides us only anonymised, aggregate information about subscriptions (e.g. how many subscriptions are active), not payment information tied to you. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
WRIT relies on these third parties only as described above:
WRIT is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Because WRIT does not collect personal data on developer servers, no such data is gathered regardless of age.
Because the developer holds no personal data about you on its own systems, most data-subject requests (access, deletion, portability) are satisfied by you directly: your content lives on your device and in your iCloud, under your control. You can:
If you believe we hold any personal data about you and wish to exercise a right under the UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 (or your local law), contact hello@lewcraftstudios.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) or your local supervisory authority.
The developer retains no personal content. Your content persists on your device and in your iCloud for as long as you keep it there; you control retention and deletion.
We may update this policy as WRIT evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated “Last updated” date, and — where appropriate — noted in the app.
